On June 6, 1992 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Criminal Investigations (OCI), by William F. Smith, determined that the Rocky Flats investigation was being closed as the judicial action in U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado was completed. The EPA/OIC control number, 87-(S)-VIII-02-101 documented the action.
The report documents that Rockwell International Corporation pled guilty on March 26, 1992 to a ten (10) count information (sic) filed by the U.S. The guilty plea was accepted by Judge Finesilver on June 1, 1992. Rockwell paid an $18.5 million fine, $2 million was suspended in consideration of the $2 million agreed to pay the State of Colorado as a portion of the plea agreement.
The details of the report include a 1989 search warrant where environmental samples were seized. “The primary targets in this investigation were employees of the U.S. Department of Energy and Rockwell International as well as employees of Rockwell International.”
